The 2023-24 NBA season is finally here, so we are breaking down Wednesday’s Western Conference showdown from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, to get you the best Trail Blazers vs. Clippers pick and odds.

The Clippers have dominated the Trail Blazers as of late, going 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS in their last five encounters. Los Angeles opens as a firm 9-point fave with a total of 228.0 points.

The Portland Trail Blazers, loaded with new faces and young players, will get their season going Wednesday night against a team that has a lot of familiarity within its locker room.

The LA Clippers return five of their top six scorers and seven players who ranked among the top nine in starts last season.

Contrast that to the Blazers, who return just four players who began last season with the team, two full-time starters (Anfernee Simons and Jerami Grant) and will feature four brand new faces within the top eight players in their rotation.

This game will provide the first example of what the new-look Blazers look like against a veteran team with players who have been playing together for quite some time.

That list includes Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and Russell Westbrook, three of the best players of the past 15 years.

But while the Clippers have championship aspirations, the Blazers have entered this season eager to develop young players while hoping to string together enough victories to remain in the mix later in the season.

Jerami Grant and the Portland Trail Blazers (0-0) face Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers (0-0) at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California on Wednesday, October 25 at 10:30 PM ET.

Los Angeles is a solid 9-point favorite against Portland when the Clippers square off against the Trail Blazers on Wednesday. The over/under is 226 points for the game.

The new-look Portland Trail Blazers are massive +1125 underdogs to snap their two-year playoff drought. After going 27-55 in 2021-22 and 33-49 in 2022-23, the Trail Blazers decided to part ways with Damian Lillard, sending the seven-time All-Star guard to the Milwaukee Bucks in a blockbuster three-team trade.

In exchange, the Trail Blazers got Jrue Holiday from Milwaukee and Deandre Ayton from the Phoenix Suns. Portland then decided to move on from Holiday, sending him to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Malcolm Brogdon, Robert Williams, and a couple of first-round picks.

Portland took Scoot Henderson with the third pick overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, and the 6-foot-2 combo guard will drive the Trail Blazers’ offense in 2023-24. On the other side of the ball, the Trail Blazers will have to work hard to improve on a disastrous 2022-23 performance. Portland had the fourth-worst defensive rating in the league, allowing 118.8 points per 100 possessions. Furthermore, the Trail Blazers’ defense ranked 28th in field goal percentage (49.1%) and 29th in 3-point percentage (37.9%).

The Los Angeles Clippers are surefire -290 favorites to return to the postseason. After going 44-38 this past regular season, the No. 5 Clippers lost to the Phoenix Suns in five games in the first round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs. Kawhi Leonard and Paul George both continued to struggle with injuries, so the Clippers didn’t stand a chance of mounting a serious championship push.

The Clippers had a quiet offseason. They re-signed Russell Westbrook, who averaged 15.8 points and 7.6 assists in 21 regular-season games with the Clippers in 2022-23. Leonard and George were tallying 23.8 points per game apiece while combining for just 106 starts, so the Clippers can only hope that their superstar duo will be healthy this time around.

Last season, the Clippers were scoring 115.0 points per 100 possessions (17th in the NBA) while surrendering 114.5 points in return (18th). Their offense ranked third in the league in 3-point percentage (38.1%), but the Clippers were handing out just 23.9 assists per contest (23rd). LA’s defense was 17th in field goal percentage (47.4%) and 19th in 3-point percentage (36.5%), so there’s a lot of room for improvement.

The Trail Blazers lost three straight games in the preseason. They suffered a couple of 11-point defeats against the Phoenix Suns (122-111 and 117-106) and a 138-133 defeat at the Utah Jazz. Until they make some improvements on the defensive side of the floor, there’s no way I’m going to back the Trail Blazers.

On the other side, the Clippers went 2-2 in the preseason. They split a couple of games against the Denver Nuggets (116-103 W and 103-90 L) and the Utah Jazz (103-98 W and 101-96 L). I don’t feel comfortable with a 9-point spread, but the Clippers are arguably a better team than the Trail Blazers, who’ll need some time to build chemistry with all the new guys around.

The Portland Trail Blazers visit Southern California on Wednesday to play the LA Clippers in the opening game of the 2023-24 NBA regular season for both teams. Last season Portland was 33-49 and failed to qualify for the postseason finishing 13th out of 15 in the conference standings. The LA Clippers finished 44-38 last season and were fifth in the conference standings. Portland does not have any players listed on its injury report. LA will play without Joshua Primo, while Brandon Boston Jr, Amir Coffey, and Bones Hyland are questionable.

he Portland Trail Blazers begin their regular season without Damian Lillard on the team. This begins a new era for the Trail Blazers. Portland is expected to see Scoot Henderson as its next big star.

Portland has become a win now team with the acquisition of several veterans and without other changes going forward the Trail Blazers' window to win is not very big. Portland re-signed Matisse Thybulle and Jerami Grant and drafted the aforementioned Henderson with the No. 3 overall pick while adding Kris Murray with the 23rd selection.
