The Minnesota Timberwolves will hit the road to start their 2023-2024 campaign against the Toronto Raptors. Tip off is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. ET on October 25th at Scotiabank Arena.

A deciding factor in this game could be field goal percentage, as these two teams wound up on other sides of the spectrum last year. The Timberwolves finished last season ranked third overall in field goal percentage, having averaged 49.2% per game. The Raptors, on the other hand, didn't do so hot: they were ranked 27th at 46%.

Looking back to last season, the Timberwolves finished on the right side of .500 (42-40), and they're hoping to kick off an even more successful campaign this year. On the other hand, the Raptors wound up balanced, finishing 41-41.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, the Timberwolves are expected to win a tight contest, barring any buzzer beaters. They finished last season with a 40-42 record against the spread.

The Timberwolves ended up a good deal behind the Raptors when the teams last played back in March, losing 122-107. Can the Timberwolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.

The Raptors had a disappointing season last year, ending with a 41-41 record and the 9th seed in the Western Conference and losing the play-in game to the Chicago Bulls. With no premier offseason additions, they hope F Scottie Barnes, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, can take another step forward to help F Pascal Siakam, who led the team at 24.2 points per game. Toronto was 41-42 against the spread (ATS) last season.

The Timberwolves were 42-40 last season and ended with a 44-45 ATS record (playoffs included). Minnesota was eliminated in 5 games by the NBA Championship-winning Denver Nuggets. The Timberwolves will again be led by former No. 1 overall picks G Anthony Edwards and F Karl-Anthony Towns.

The Raptors lost an important piece of their roster this offseason as G Fred VanVleet took his talents to Houston. VanVleet averaged 19.3 PPG last season and over 17 per game for Toronto over the last four seasons. His absence will be felt.

On the other hand, the Timberwolves should see notable improvements from Edwards, who played with Team USA in the FIBA Basketball World Cup. He should blossom into an all-out superstar after averaging 24.6 PPG last season. The Timberwolves should have a better early-season identity having not lost any star power.

Both teams have strong front court presences. The Timberwolves have C Rudy Gobert, and the Raptors have F Chris Boucher and C Precious Achiuwa on their bench. Both teams ranked in the top 11 in defensive rating last season as well and should see similar success this year.

The Raptors also ranked 25th in pace and didn’t add any high-pace players. Expect a slow game and the length of both front courts to play a factor defensively. Take UNDER 222.5 (-110).

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Toronto Raptors open their 2023-24 season on Wednesday night, each seeking a result greater than last year's finish. The Timberwolves went 42-40 last season, losing to the Lakers in the first play-in game before defeating Oklahoma City to advance to the Western Conference's final eight. They then fell in five games to Denver, who went on to win the NBA Championship. The Raptors went 41-41 in 2022-23, losing in the first round of the play-in tournament to the Bulls. The teams split the two game head-to-head series last season, a 128-126 Minnesota win at home and a 122-107 Toronto victory in Canada.

Minnesota's top three players are a formidable unit that can hang with most teams in the league. Star guard Anthony Edwards averaged 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists last season and showed he was the all-around player the Timberwolves had hoped when they took him No. 1 overall in the 2020 NBA Draft. In the offseason, he signed a five year contract extension worth up to $260 million and should be the face of Minnesota's franchise for years to come.

Forward Karl-Anthony Towns has been the Timberwolves' face for years and looks to be fully healthy to start 2023 after playing in only 29 regular season games last season. He's averaging 23 points per game and 11.2 rebounds and looks to exceed those numbers if Minnesota is to surprise in the Western Conference. Center Rudy Gobert was acquired from Utah last season and averaged 13.6 PPG and 11.6 RPG in his first season in Minnesota

The Raptors' offense is centered around forward Siakam, who has increased his scoring averages in each of the last three seasons. He also averaged 7.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists in 2022-23. For Toronto to improve this season, Schroder will need to gel with the returning players and Toronto would be a contender for a top-six seed in the Eastern Conference.

It’s an interconference battle on the hardwood as a pair of teams start their 2023-24 campaign north of the border. The Minnesota Timberwolves are on the road as they make the trip to face the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night. Minnesota finished last season 42-40 and earned the eighth seed in the Western Conference playoff picture.

They were eliminated in five games in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs by the Nuggets. Toronto ended the 2022-23 season with a 41-41 record and missed the postseason. In the all-time regular season series between the teams, the Raptors own a 37-17 advantage. Last season, the teams split two meetings with the Raptors earning a 122-107 home win in the most recent matchup on March 18, 2023.
